Journalists from some Chinese media organizations, including People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Women's News and Women of China English Monthly, visited Hanhu Cultural and Creative Product Store, in Hulun Buir Ancient Town, in Hulun Buir, a city in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, on July 27.
The store, operated by Hanhu Cultural Company, mainly sells cultural and creative products made by local women. It also serves as a demonstration base for women's employment and entrepreneurship.
With the support of Hulun Buir Women's Federation, the demonstration base has organized training sessions to help women acquire wool-felt-crafts-making skills, so the women can earn stable incomes by making and selling crafts.
The base has introduced a flexible employment mechanism to local women; as such, it has helped more than 200 women find employment near their homes. More than 30 women have received long-term orders from the base, helping them earn a combined 350,000 yuan (US $51,471).
In recent years, Hulun Buir Women's Federation has followed the trend of integrated cultural and tourism development, and it established "Hulun Buir She-Creation" brand to promote women's employment and entrepreneurship. The store is just one of the demonstration bases for women's employment and entrepreneurship under the brand.
Currently, products with strong Hulun Buir characteristics, such as wool-felt crafts and birch-made pens, are selling well through multiple channels. They are available in various local scenic spots and stores, and they are exported to overseas markets.
