During the past years, the Women's Federation of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, in Southwest China's Yunnan Province, has focused on women's employment needs as well as families' demands for domestic services. It has adopted innovative working methods, promoted the delivery of women-led domestic services into communities to shift from basic coverage to quality improvement, and effectively bridged the last mile of domestic services.
The federation has pressed ahead with the exploration of the domestic service model featuring the leadership of women's federations, cross-department coordination, and social participation, further deepened the integration of public resources of the departments of civil affairs and commerce, and set up 27 community centers of women's domestic services on the basis of community service centers and women's activity centers, forming an integrated network of prefectural demonstration stations and community-based sites. The federation has promoted the building of 32 women's federations in local domestic service companies to facilitate the development of the entire industry.
The federation has launched the "domestic service supermarket" model and guided relevant enterprises to provide diversified and accessible public services in residential communities. It has helped about 5,600 women acquire housekeeping knowledge and skills through online and offline training activities, enabled 1,300 target women to get flexibly employed via job fairs and livestreaming sales, organized women volunteers to offer elderly people living alone and families facing with difficulties caring services, and held law popularization and family-building activities with the distribution of 9,800 pamphlets to support primary-level governance.
To enhance the brand influence of services, the federation has provided guidance in the cultivation of local domestic service brands like "Sister Chu," "Longxiang Aunties" and "Sister Lotus." Measures including manager training programs and the selection of the most beautiful women's domestic service workers have been taken in a drive to establish industry benchmarks and expand social recognition.
So far, Chuxiong has convened 92 women's domestic service promotion activities in communities with the participation of 1,860 families. In the years ahead, Chuxiong Women's Federation will expand its service network, enhance service quality, and help women's domestic services play a larger role in advancing public well-being and employment.
