The women's federation and the railway police department in Mudanjiang, a city in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, launched an initiative on May 15 to provide warm, targeted services to women and children train passengers.
The police department established Edelweiss Women's Service Team earlier this year. The team's members solve passengers' disputes and help in-need passengers, especially women and children.
The women's federation and the police department will cooperate in publicizing the concept of women- and children-friendly train services, and they will call on the public to pay more attention to women and children's safety during travels.
The women's federation will leverage its role in fostering family ties, protecting women's rights and interests and improving public awareness of laws.
A long-term cooperative mechanism between the federation and police department will be formed to advance the initiative.
