 July 26, 2021

Shanghai Women's Federation and the China Development Research Foundation (a nongovernmental organization established by the Development Research Center of the State Council in November 1997) recently held a news conference, during which the organizations' cadres released information about Shanghai's projects to improve residents' (especially women and children's) health, education and family lives.

During the conference, organizers announced the establishment of Shanghai Women's Physical and Mental Health Development Research Center. Organizers told media the center, set up by the federation and Shanghai University of Sport, would offer suggestions on how to help women improve their physical and mental health, and that it would also conduct various activities to help women improve their overall health.

According to the results of the survey on women's health, conducted by the federation and the university in 2020, more than 81 percent of the respondents said they remained sedentary for more than three hours during each work day, which might cause physical and/or mental diseases. More than 38 percent of the respondents said they did not suffer from diabetes or other chronic illnesses.

Wang Anshun, Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, said this year marks both the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the beginning of the implementation of the Outline of the 14th Five- Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development. Wang also said the center's leaders and workers would strive to help residents improve their livelihoods. That, he stressed, is an important way for the Party to implement President Xi Jinping's people- centered development philosophy, and to help the people realize their aspirations to live better lives.
