Zhejiang Women's Federation releases the list of the province's Top 10 Women and Children's Rights Protection Cases during a work conference on strengthening family construction in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang Province, on December 3. [For Women of China]

For the first time in its history, Zhejiang Women's Federation released the list of the province's Top 10 Women and Children's Rights Protection Cases. The list was made public during a work conference on strengthening family construction in Hangzhou (capital of East China's Zhejiang Province) on December 3. The purpose of the event was to encourage women to respect, study, observe and use the law (to protect their legal rights and interests). The event was also intended to motivate law enforcement agencies (in the province), and women's federations and trade unions, at all levels in Zhejiang, to work together to protect women and children's rights and interests.

The cases were selected from among 50 cases collected by the Legal Department of Zhejiang Women's Federation, the Women Workers' Committee under Zhejiang Federation of Trade Unions, Zhejiang Association of Women Judges, Zhejiang Association of Women Procurators and Zhejiang Women Lawyers' Association during the past year.

Selection of the cases highlighted the achievements of the federations and law enforcement agencies (in Zhejiang) in working together to protect women and children's rights and interests (during the past year). Some of the cases involved the infringement of citizens' reputation in cyberspace, and infringements of women's rights in employment (during pregnancy), marriage and family. Other cases involved rural women's land-related rights, domestic violence against women and children, and infringement of minors' personal rights. Proper handling of the cases enables the parties concerned to receive justice and benefit from equality, and it helps guide law enforcement agencies as they handle cases involving infringements of women and children's rights and interests.
