Organizations in Hunan Province Raise Money to Assist Disadvantaged Women

 July 14, 2021

To mark the centenary anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Hunan Women's Federation, the working committees on women of organs under Hunan Provincial Government, and various other organizations, on June 21 initiated a project to raise money to assist disadvantaged women (including disabled and/or impoverished women, and women whose husbands have left home to work elsewhere) in Hunan. The project was endorsed by Deng Yaping (Chinese table tennis player who won 14 world championships and four Olympic championships between 1989 and 1998). The event was held in Changsha, capital of Central China's Hunan Province.

Within a short time after the project was initiated, employees of enterprises (in various regions in Hunan Province), workers with the women's federations, at all levels across the province, and other organizations established 20 work teams. The teams' members called on society to help and care for disadvantaged women. Given the members and various media outlets' efforts to publicize information about the project, organizers achieved initial success in conducting the project; within 11 days after they initiated the project, they raised, both online and offline, more than 1.5 million yuan (US $230,769) from more than 230,000 donors, from various regions of the country.

Many women's organizations performed splendidly during the project's implementation. For example, the Women Entrepreneurs' Committee, under Hunan Chamber of Commerce (in South China's Guangdong Province), raised 400,000 yuan (US $61,538) within 10 days after the project was initiated. The women's federations of Changde, Changsha, Hengyang, and other cities in Hunan Province, exceeded their targets. Each raised more than one million yuan (US $153,846) for the project.

A cadre with Hunan Women's Federation recently told media the women's federations, at all levels across the province, would use the raised money to carry out various activities to help and care for disadvantaged women.
