Hubei Helps Women, Children Better Protect Rights

 May 23, 2021

To promote social harmony and stability, the Information Office of Hubei (in Central China) Provincial People's Government recently held a conference to release the list of Hubei's Top 23 Women and Children's Rights-protection Cases, and to commend "Peaceful Families." The event was intended to motivate law enforcement agencies, various organizations and people from all segments of society, across the country, to work together to protect women and children's rights and interests. The event was also intended to promote both family virtues and core socialist values among residents.

The selection of the cases highlighted the achievements of law enforcement agencies, people's organizations and social organizations in working together to protect women and children's rights and interests during the past few years. Some of the cases involved domestic violence, the infringement of minors' legal rights and interests (including children's custody and personal rights), and parents' duties in raising their children. Other cases involved the infringement of family relations (including disputes over marital relations, properties, and youngsters' filial responsibility to support their elders). Proper handling of such cases will not only enable the parties concerned to receive justice and benefit from equality, but will also help guide law enforcement agencies as they handle cases involving infringements of women and children's rights and interests.

To protect residents' (especially women and children's) legal rights and interests, Hubei Province in recent years has promulgated the Anti-domestic Violence Regulations of Hubei Province and the Regulations on the Promotion of Hubei's Family Education. People's courts, at all levels in Hubei, have issued a combined 187 restraining orders to victims of domestic violence, to protect their safety. The courts have also established a combined 17 family courts, in several districts and counties, in Wuhan (capital of Hubei Province).

During the past few years, Hubei Women's Federation has held various events to publicize information about the fight against domestic violence.
