Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, in Qiubei, a county in Southwest China's Yunnan Province, in recent years has made great efforts to strengthen child protection. The prefecture has done the following to improve its child-protection mechanism:

Organized various organizations to work together to improve the prefecture's child-protection work. To achieve this goal, the prefecture has established the system of holding a joint conference (attended by cadres from government organizations, women's federations, at all levels across the prefecture, and other organizations) to organize activities to help and care for disadvantaged children (including minors from poverty-stricken families, and migrant and left-behind children, whose parents have left home to work elsewhere). The prefecture has also stipulated the work duties of cadres of the organizations, to strengthen child protection;

Improved the cooperation of various organizations, so they can better protect children's legal rights and interests. The prefecture has established the work mechanism, through which various organizations (including public security agencies, law enforcement agencies, education and civil affairs departments and women's federations, at all levels across the prefecture) work together to strengthen child protection;

Created a favorable environment to foster children's healthy growth and development. The prefecture has established the hotline, 0876-12349, through which children seek legal assistance in protecting their rights and interests. The prefecture has also conducted various activities to publicize information about the laws and regulations pertaining to the protection of children's legal rights and interests. In addition, the prefecture has invited experts in the protection of minors, to provide lectures, to help teachers, doctors, psychologists, social workers and workers with other organizations improve their ability to protect minors' rights and interests; and,

Helped villages' and neighborhoods' committees (in the prefecture) develop projects to help and care for disadvantaged children, and to protect the minors' rights and interests. While implementing the projects, the committees have helped establish a combined seven organizations dedicated to providing social services to children.
