To protect women and children's legal rights and interests, Ganzhou (a city in East China's Jiangxi Province) Working Committee on Children and Women recently promulgated a work plan to establish the work mechanism, through which various organizations cooperate with each other to end domestic violence and protect children's safety. That, in turn, will promote social justice and harmony within families.

The plan outlines the responsibilities of various organizations (including Ganzhou's education, civil affairs and public security departments, the women's federations and the communist youth leagues, at all levels in Ganzhou) in helping residents improve their understanding of the law, and in providing legal protection and assistance to women and children, whose rights and/or interests had been infringed. The plan also stipulates the organizations should regularly hold a conference on combating domestic violence and protecting children's legal rights and interests.

The plan also contains regulations on the procedures for handling cases involving domestic violence and the sexual assaults involving women and/or children.

In addition, the plan stipulates the organizations should establish a work mechanism, through which the organizations publicize serious cases involving the infringement of women and children's rights and interests. That will help residents improve their understanding of the law, and create a favorable environment for promoting the basic State policy of gender equality, and for advancing the principle of giving priority to the protection of children's rights and interests.
