Over the past four decades, the Shenzhen Women's Federation has been pushing for the advancement of women and uniting them to contribute to the development of Shenzhen, China's first special economic zone, and to the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The city's women's federation took the initiative to establish a national women's entrepreneurship and innovation base in Qianhai free-trade zone in Shenzhen, as part of the development strategy of the GBA. At the base, there are 41 women entrepreneurship teams, including 20 from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. An open, public platform to promote the transformation of scientific and technological results was also established.

The federation organized the first women's entrepreneurship and innovation contest in 2018. More than 210 projects entered the contest covering technological fields such as biomedicine, new energy and new materials, and six winning women were awarded bonuses to develop their businesses.

Shenzhen has set up China's first women makers' association. At present, the association has 1,420 members and has established contacts and cooperative relationships with more than 60 other makers' organizations, bringing together women entrepreneurs from various fields such as technology, culture, education, services and venture capital.

The women makers' association has organized exchange activities and public lectures, covering some 500 women makers, entrepreneurs, freelancers and new media practitioners from science and technology, medicine, finance, agriculture and the Internet industries. Nearly 100 cooperative projects have since been formed.

The federation has also formulated a public-welfare campaign to promote poverty alleviation and women's employment and entrepreneurship. More than 200 products from over 30 companies were recommended to consumers by the federation via livestreaming shows, reaching a sales volume of nearly 2.56 million yuan (US $380,709).

The federation has made efforts in promoting in-depth cooperation among outstanding businesswomen in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao. It played a role in organizing a Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Women's Financial and Economic Association Summit, which was sponsored by the Shenzhen Female Financial Workers Association and the Association of Women Accountants HK. In 2020, a forum for women CFOs in Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao region was also held to enhance communication and exchanges.
