A livestreaming activity titled Sichuan Women Promote Sichuan Specialties was held by the Sichuan Women's Federation and local authorities in Southwest China's Sichuan Province on July 24. The event was organized to increase awareness of local products.

The activity brought together a total of 22 presidents from women's federations at various levels in Sichuan, along with female entrepreneurs, village officials and live hosts. Participants presented various products — including those unsold due to COVID-19 epidemic—and shared the stories behind the products with netizens.

"The first product I would like to recommend today is 'Jinshan rose treatment lotion,' which was developed by two winners of the honorable title of March 8th Red-banner Holder. Later, I will tell you the stories behind the lotion," said Lü Furong, Vice-President of the Sichuan Women's Federation, during the activity, which was broadcast live on TV and network platforms.

Chen Wanghui, a village official of the Ngawa Tibetan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan, is one of the lotion's developers. She led villagers to plant roses in a mountainous area and successfully created the most productive high-altitude damask rose-planting base in the world.

Wang Li, another developer, is a scientist. After studying abroad, she served as the leader of a scientific research team at the National Traditional Chinese Medicine Safety Evaluation Center of Sichuan University.

When Chen and Wang met, they decided to work together to help impoverished women attain economic prosperity through green and sustainable development. They cooperated to roll out a series of high-quality rose-based products, including the lotion.

A total of 6,200 bottles of the lotion introduced by Lü were sold during the livestreaming activity.

"In response to the epidemic prevention and control measures, the event aims to build a market expansion platform for women and enterprises, helping them increase income and boost business development," explained Lü.

The online event also aroused overseas attention. Wen Qian, Director of the Women's Home of the Sichuan Free Trade Area, got a phone call after the activity, saying that overseas Chinese communities hope to cooperate with her to promote local products.

During the epidemic period, Wen guided several enterprises to establish themselves on e-commerce platforms, and trained people to be experienced livestreaming celebrities.

"With the rapid development of e-commerce in the Internet era, livestreaming has become an important means for enterprises to expand their market," said a cadre of the Sichuan Women's Federation.

"The event is the first demonstration in a series of activities, and the women's federations will continue to organize such events across the province," she noted, adding that all regions in the province will share the livestreaming platform, expand sales channels for local products and accelerate the construction of an e-commerce base for women. These measures are intended to contribute to poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, as well as local economic development.

Also, Sichuan Province is going to offer more online and offline training to local women and help foster a group of influential female livestreaming celebrities for the e-commerce industry.

"For me, today's activity is a timely course on e-commerce. It's also an exploration of how livestreaming shows can help local people shake off poverty," said Wang Huijuan, a village-stationed official in Luhuo County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, who participated in the livestreaming e-commerce event for the first time.
