The Women's Federation of Yangpu District in Shanghai and the district's early education guidance center initiated an online parent-child reading contest on February 14 to enrich the life of parents and children staying at home amid the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The organizers invite families with children aged 2-6 to participate in the competition, and it will last into June.

Local families are encouraged to attend the first round of selection though a mini program on WeChat, a popular instant messaging app in China, and then the entries will be judged by public voting and expert reviews.

Early education experts will offer one-on-one instructions to those reaching the finals, enabling the parents to fully understand the importance of reading in family education.

The official WeChat account of the district's women's federation has opened a channel for families to sign up. 

The first reading contest was held in the district from March to June last year. More than 300 families attended the contest, developing good family traditions through the joint participation of parents and their children.
