Editor's Note: This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Long March, a strategic retreat undertaken by the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, forerunner of the People's Liberation Army, to evade the pursuit of the Kuomintang army. The event started in October 1934 and ended when the three major corps finally met in northwest China in October 1936. The special coverage is dedicated to female soldiers who took part in the event.
