Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met Humile Mashatile, wife of Paul Mashatile, South Africa's Deputy President, in Beijing, on June 23.
Huang noted Chinese President Xi Jinping and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the elevation of bilateral ties to an all-around strategic cooperative partnership for the new era, in 2024, which opened a new chapter in the building of a high-level China-South Africa community with a shared future. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of State, the ACWF stands ready to further deepen exchanges and cooperation on work concerning women with South Africa, Huang added.
Huang explained the historic achievements in women's cause in China. She stressed Xi has always placed work concerning women high on the governance of China, and Xi has delivered a number of important speeches, and made a series of major decisions and plans. Such efforts have charted the course and provided fundamental guidance for women's cause, and work concerning women, on the new journey in the new era, Huang added.
The Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China (2026-2030) has integrated women and children's causes, and family building, into the overall architecture of China's development. The outline has made systematic institutional plans, targeted policy arrangements and practical goals, providing solid guarantees for the high-quality development of women's cause in the new era, Huang said.
Huang and Humile Mashatile recalled, with delight, how the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women (GLMW) was held, in Beijing, in 2025, and how Xi made four proposals for promoting the new and accelerated process for women's all-round development, and practical measures for supporting the global women's cause. They also recalled their meeting with Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a side event of GLMW, and showed their respect for Peng, as Peng has made outstanding contributions to promoting girls and women's education, as a special envoy for the Spring Bud Project.
Humile Mashatile noted Xi has paid special attention to women's development, and he has set by example and guided the international community in pursuing common progress. Humile Mashatile spoke highly of the achievements in Chinese women's development and of the ACWF's work. She added she is willing to learn from China's experiences and deepen practical cooperation with China, to implement the guiding principles from GLMW and promote the high-quality development of women's cause.
