The National Finals and Showcase of People's Mediation Skills Competition for Marriage and Family Disputes, hosted by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the Ministry of Justice, was held in Changsha, capital of Central China's Hunan Province, from November 26-27, 2025. Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, attended and delivered a speech.
Huang noted women's federations, at every level, should stick to and develop the "Fengqiao model" for promoting grassroots governance in the new era. The federations, she added, should integrate marriage and family dispute mediation with efforts to cultivate stronger family bonds, values and traditions. Also, she continued, they should improve diversified mediation service models, conduct legal education and translate the outcomes of marriage and family dispute mediation into tangible results, which enhance family well-being and strengthen the effectiveness of grassroots governance.
The finals included written tests, knowledge quizzes and simulated-mediation sessions. Ninety-six mediators, from 32 teams across the country, competed during the finals. After two days of intense competition, one first prize, five second prizes, 10 third prizes and 80 excellence awards were awarded. The showcase event, with the theme "Safeguarding Marital and Family Well-being for Social Harmony and Stability," vividly presented the deep integration of family culture inheritance and grassroots governance in China. Some foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations attended. Also in attendance were approximately 800 people from relevant government departments, ACWF's group members and local women's federations.
The competition was the first nationwide skills competition in the field of people's mediation for marriage and family disputes. The event lasted eight months, with 98,000 people's mediators participating in the selection process.
