Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member οf the Secretariat οf the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met Natalia Kanem, Executive Director οf United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Beijing οn June 12, 2025.
During their meeting, Huang noted Chinese President Xi Jinping pays high attention to women's cause and the work of women's federations, and Xi has made a number of important expositions in this field, leading to remarkable, historical achievements in Chinese women's development in the new era. Huang also noted Professor Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, cares about girls' and women's education. Peng has led by example, devoted a great deal of effort and made outstanding contributions to promoting girls' and women's education.
Huang outlined with detailed statistics the significant progress made by Chinese women in various sectors, including economy, politics, culture, society and family, especially in women's and children's health. She also outlined, with vivid examples, ACWF's efforts and achievements in fostering stronger family ties, values and traditions, safeguarding women's and children's rights and interests, promoting women's health and launching public welfare projects, such as the Spring Bud Project and Health Express for Mothers Project.
Huang noted this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which was held in Beijing in 1995. Implementing Xi's important proposal, China will host the Global Leaders' Meeting οn Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in the coming months, and that meeting will inject fresh momentum into the advancement οf gender equality and women's all-round development, Huang said. She expected to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with UNFPA, to make new contributions to the building οf a community with a shared future for mankind.
Kanem said she sincerely admires China's global leadership, and is looking forward to China hosting the Global Leaders' Meeting οn Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. She said Chinese women's development fully demonstrates "women can hold up half the sky." Kanem said UNFPA is willing to work with China, and with women's federations, to deepen South-South and triangular cooperation, promote China's successful experiences and ensure every woman and girl benefits from development.
Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, Song Li, Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and heads of relevant ACWF departments also attended.
