Du Jie: Reconfirming Commitment, Building a Better Future for Women

September 4, 2020

Du Jie, Director General of the Women's Studies Institute of China under the All-China Women's Federation, talked about her views and feelings on women's development over the past years during a recent interview with China Women's News.

Du said that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has attached great importance to the women's cause, providing a strong political guarantee for promoting gender equality.

For the past few years, the basic State policy of gender equality has been further implemented, and gender equality and women's development have been given full consideration when the Chinese government promulgated laws, formulated policies or made and deployed working plans, said Du.

Du noted that China has rolled out policies and measures of caring for women and children amid COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control since the beginning of 2020, which was a new chapter in the implementation of the basic State policy of gender equality and gender mainstreaming in response to disasters and post-disaster reconstruction.

According to Du, the women's federations have played a key role in promoting gender equality and women's development in the past five years. Under the leadership of the CPC, the women's federations have carried out their own reforms and organized diversified activities to mobilize women to contribute to various social sectors and to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

In particular, amid COVID-19 epidemic containment and work and production resumption, women's federations at all levels actively guided, contacted and served women.

Taking the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the 5th anniversary of the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment as a new starting point, China will continue to promote gender equality and women's all-round development and contribute more to the cause of gender equality around the world, Du concluded.
