Procuratorate, Federation Protect Women's Rights

 April 15, 2023

The Supreme People's Procuratorate and the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) recently released the list of eight typical cases, in which the women involved received joint legal assistance from prosecutorial organs and women's federations, at all levels across the country. In March 2022, the procuratorate and the federation initiated the campaign to provide legal assistance to women in need, while their cases were being handled by prosecutors.

Selection of the cases highlighted the achievements of the procuratorial organs and the federations, at all levels across the country, in working together to protect women's rights and interests during the past year. In addition to intentional homicides, intentional injuries and other major criminal cases, there are also other illegal and criminal cases involved infringements of women's legal rights and interests. The organs and the federations have provided legal assistance to women in need, including those who have been victimized by domestic violence and/or other illegal acts.

The organs and the federations have also provided legal assistance to women, whose families' providers have lost their lives or the ability to work, as they have been victimized by illegal acts, or as their civil rights have been infringed by others. Also, the women have to shoulder the heavy responsibility of looking after their aged parents and/or in-laws and their children.

The organs and the federations' experiences in providing legal assistance to women may help guide other legal institutions and social organizations, especially as they handle cases involving infringements of women's rights and interests. For example, procuratorial organs (in many regions of the country) have established a platform, through which the organs' procurators and cadres, with local women's federations, work together to provide legal assistance to women who are facing difficulties.
