Organizers held a ceremony at China Women's University (CWU) on September 27 to mark the opening of its latest two-year program "Master of social work in women's leadership and social development".

The initiative is run by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), the Ministry of Education, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the CWU.

The academic program has already drawn the attendance of nearly 30 officials from 16 developing countries including Algeria, Afghanistan and Ethiopia.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lu Yamin, deputy director of the ACWF Liaison Department, emphasized that China is willing to strengthen its partnership and cooperation with other developing countries, share development opportunities with them, and connect the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation with the dream of living better lives of people from developing countries.

Lu said the program will help trainees learn more about China, become friendly ambassadors in deepening the friendship and cooperation between China and their own countries, and make joint contributions to promoting gender equality worldwide.

Liu Meng, vice-president of the CWU, briefed participants on the university's history, mission and commitments to gender equality as well as the development of women and children's affairs. She called on them to cherish the opportunity, contribute personal efforts to the building of friendly ties between China and their home nations, and become important components of the university's alumni resources.

During their stay on the campus of CWU, foreign officials will learn various classes for social work students with an emphasis on women's leadership and social development. They are expected to be presented with master's degrees at the end of the program, which is the sole degree education program sponsored by MOFCOM on gender equality and women's empowerment.

According to the CWU, the academic program was officially launched in 2016 and students enrolled that year have already graduated.
