The China Women's University (CWU) signed cooperative agreements with two women's universities of the Republic of Korea (ROK) — Seoul Women's University and Sungshin Women's University in Beijing on December 6.

Liu Liqun, President of the CWU, Wang Jingxia, Vice-President of the CWU, Chun Hei-Jung, President of Seoul Women's University and President of Sungshin Women's University, attended the signing ceremony.

Liu gave a warm welcome to the presidents of the two universities and said that university is the place to change women's destiny.

Liu said that the cooperative agreements have the significance of milestones. They will not only enhance the exchanges between the universities of the two countries but also push forward cooperation in international women's education.

"The development of women's learning mainly depends on education and training. China has the China Women's University Consortium, while ROK has its own women school union. It is necessary to strengthen cooperation between the women's universities of different countries. The signing of cooperative agreements will open a new chapter of the cooperation, reach more agreement and provide more opportunities for exchange and communication," Liu added.

Chun said that the ROK has seven women's universities, but it is hard to solve gender inequality simply by relying on the nation's women's universities. She hoped that this agreement might promote cooperation among Asian women's universities and push forward global gender equality.

Seoul Women's University was set up in 1961. Its aim was to cultivate professional talents with humanity and wisdom, as well as outstanding female leaders.

Sungshin Women's University was established in 1936. It is a comprehensive university dedicated to educating various professional talents.

The CWU is the only undergraduate women's university affiliated to the All-China Women's Federation. Since the fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, the university has received more than 300 high-profile delegations of women from over 40 countries. It is a first choice among senior officers of the UN, foreign female politicians and wives of foreign countries' leaders who visit China's universities.
