CWU Holds Seminar on Student Affairs

In order to comprehensively summarize its conscription work from 2012- 2015, China Women's University (CWU) held a seminar on student affairs recently. Li Mingshun, Chairperson of the CWU Council, delivered an opening speech. Zhang Ruizhi, secretary of the CWU Youth League Committee, and Ma Yu, deputy director of the Student Affairs Office, co-presided over the event.

Attendees also included members of the Students Working Committee; secretaries of General Party Branches from different departments and schools; and, all the counselors and relevant teachers.

During the event, Jiang Cheng, deputy director of the Research Center for Human Resources and China's Education at Peking University, gave a research report on CWU students' status of development in 2015. Based on concrete data and diagrams, Jiang comparatively analyzed CWU students' developing status in 2015, in relation to its data from 2013, as well as data from other universities in Beijing.

Jiang also put forward several pertinent suggestions, and gave a symposium on "Questionnaire Design and Basic Analytical Methods". In the end, in order to further improving teachers' and students' scientific research capacity, Zheng Lei, deputy secretary of the General Party Branch of the CWU Financial Department, shared notes about his college student affairs management experience in Australia.

The next day, relevant teachers from Student Affairs Office, CWU Youth League Committee, and all other departments and schools discussed the characteristics of students, their own advantages and shortcomings, and put forward several suggestions on student affairs.

Li highly praised the university's achievements in conscription and other student affairs, and emphasized that correct political orientation is the soul of student affairs, scientific management system is its foundation, planning guide is the key to improvement, the construction of new media is a carrier of student affairs, and students' satisfaction is the end goal.

He also hoped that the relevant departments could further clarify objectives, recognize insufficiencies, locate problems and solve them, foster the university's characteristics, and combine the student affairs with teaching affairs so as to further develop the talent-cultivation work.

The seminar laid a solid foundation for the evaluation of undergraduate education and the perfection of the university's 13th Five-year Plan.
