CWU Holds Induction Training for New Staff Members

 December 24, 2015

On December 8, China Women's University (CWU) held an induction training session for 16 new faculty members.

Divided into four modules of "School Conditions Learning", "Top-Teacher Training", "Gender Awareness Fostering" and "Symposium", the session aimed to guide the newcomers' gender awareness, sharpen their moral standards and improve their management abilities.

Beginning with the university-produced film "Cross", directors from the Disciplinary Inspection and Supervision Office, Personnel Division, Teaching Affairs Office, Scientific Research Management Center, and Student Affairs Office outlined the university's condition, including its management mechanism, history of development, scientific research, teachers' training model and student coordination.

Liu Chengbi, Beijing Municipal Teaching Celebrity, and professor of Beijing Technology and Business University, delivered a keynote speech on the "Three Phases in Teaching Careers". He shared his own experience and ideas towards teaching, and vividly illustrated the equal importance of teachers' professional ethics and competence. He also suggested that the newcomers should develop their self-cultivation, work hard, and strive to enhance their teaching level and skills.

The course in gender conscious teaching is compulsory for teachers and students in CWU, and is distinct to the institution. Li Hongtao, chief expert from China Women and Gender Library, said that brainstorming, group discussion, problem analysis and other interactive teaching methods help to foster gender awareness and the concept of gender equality. He also encouraged teachers to absorb social gender consciousness into teaching management.

During the symposium, Wang Xiangmei, senior teacher from the Gender and Social Development Department, and Liu Zhaohui, senior teacher from the Department of Ideological and Political Theory Education, discussed with the participants on the themes of "How to Study Gender Scientifically?" and "How to Build Student-oriented Courses?".

Afterward, in order to emphasize the importance of its teaching mission, and improve teachers' ability of management, the organizers arranged a special training course with the title "Teachers' Consciousness of Social Responsibility".
