Sequel to Hit Food Documentary Tops China's Popularity Charts

BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — Food documentary "Breakfast in China III" is currently the most popular Chinese-language TV series, according to review platform Douban.

A sequel to the 2019 documentary hit "Breakfast in China II," the show was co-produced by Tencent Video and has topped Douban's latest weekly popularity rankings for Chinese-language TV series.

Featuring the return of director Wang Shengzhi, the 30-episode documentary series will take audiences on a journey to find the most popular local breakfast dishes across China, focusing on 30 breakfast restaurants.

Released on Oct. 19, it currently boasts a rating of 9.1 out of 10 on Douban. "Breakfast in China II" and "Breakfast in China," both released in 2019, received respective ratings of 8.9 and 8.1.

"Once Upon a Bite 2," another food documentary produced by Tencent Video, topped the Douban charts for weeks following its release in April.

Directed by Chen Xiaoqing, "Once Upon a Bite 2" focuses on connections between distinctive delicacies around the world. It explores different cooking methods that use the same ingredients, similar cooking methods that use different ingredients, and different cooking methods that result in similar tastes.
