Hangzhou Women's Federation Helps Promote Agricultural Products via Live Streaming

2020-03-03

With the support of domestic e-commerce giant Taobao, the Hangzhou Women's Federation, in East China's Zhejiang Province, helped sell agricultural products via live streaming on February 28 in a bid to help local farmers find markets for their home-grown citrus fruits amid the nationwide prevention and control of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

During the live streaming, Lou Yejie, President of the Hangzhou Women's Federation, helped promote the fruit grown in Dayang, a township in Jiande City.

Dayang has been reputed for its high production of citrus fruit and many farmers are highly dependent upon it to make a living. However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Wuhan City of Central China's Hubei Province dealt a heavy blow to its sales.

Due to the absence of salespersons and a temporary standstill in the logistics industry, as of February 28, about one million kilograms of citrus fruits had failed to find potential customers.

Therefore, the city's women's federation organized staff members of the women's federations at all levels in the city, recipients of the honorary title of the March 8th Red-banner Holders, and Internet celebrities to help local farmers sell their agricultural products to markets across the country via the online platform.

According to the federation, they sold over 25,000 kilograms of fruits in one hour.

Pan Qiumei and Xu Meiying, recipients of the National March 8th Red-banner Holders, also joined the online sale.
