Hua Yuchen, a post-90s music teacher at a primary school in Wuhan City, Central China's Hubei Province, is warming the patients infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the mobile cabin hospital of the city's Qingshan District with her beautiful voice.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Hua has been working as a volunteer, playing her part in the concerted efforts to overcome the epidemic.
As Wuhan has suspended public transportation as a measure to curb the spread of the virus, Hua volunteered to drive medical staff between their homes and hospitals.
Later, the accommodation and traffic problems of the medical workers were resolved, she took up another work at the Erqi Yangtze River Bridge, which was helping measure passengers' temperature.
In addition, Hua also took on some temporary tasks, such as carrying materials.
Hua did all this without telling her parents. After returning home, she just took a shower and stayed in her room, avoiding any contact with her parents.
"At the beginning, I lied to them that I was on duty at school. Later, I told them the truth. My mom was shocked and my father said he wanted to go for me. I refused him, as I have better immunity," Hua said.
In February, the mobile cabin hospital in Wuhan's Qingshan District was ready to receive and treat COVID-19 patients. A leader of the district's education bureau called Hua, asking her whether she could work as the announcer in the hospital.
"I am willing to take the responsibility," Hua said without any hesitation.
There is no special studio in the cabin hospital. To prevent infection, a small table was set up in the passage outside the ward. With a computer and a microphone on the low-set table, Hua begins her broadcasts sitting on a small plastic stool. In addition to broadcasting the date, weather and news information, she sends birthday wishes to patients in the hospital and plays the birthday song for them.
"Everyone works hard at the frontline. No matter how small my role is, if I am needed, I will do my best," Hua said.
