Group Members of Women's Federations in Shanxi, N China, Rush to Aid Anti-Epidemic Battle

2020-02-17

The group members of the women's federations at all levels in North China's Shanxi Province have raised funds and leveraged their own strengths to aid the fight against the novel coronavirus pneumonia since the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan, the capital city of Central China's Hubei Province.

The associations of female entrepreneurs at both provincial and city levels mobilized their members to assume the social corporate responsibilities and donate money and supplies worth about 7.43 million yuan (roughly US $1.07 million) to the anti-epidemic battle.

Women lawyers from the Women Lawyers Association (WLA) under the Shanxi Lawyers Association (SLA) contributed 500,000 yuan (about US $71,727) to support the prevention and control efforts of medical workers and other frontline workers.

According to Zhao Zhiqin, Vice-Chairperson of the SLA and head of the WLA under the SLA, an appeal was extended to women lawyers from across the entire province to make the best use of their own social influences via WeChat to increase publicity of legal regulations and update information on the contagious virus.

Apart from the donation of money and supplies, members of the Shanxi Women Artists Association (SWAA) also used their painting brushes to depict the frontline medical workers and other workers in the anti-epidemic battle.

Wang Weilan, President of the SWAA, said that many local artists have been working on the creation of their paintings and channeling their income from relevant auctions to support the prevention and control efforts on the frontline.

The Shanxi Cheongsam Cultural Research Association raised 26,100 yuan (US $3,739) for the Wuhan Charity Federation to aid the anti-virus battle there.

The Shanxi Medical Women's Association said in a recent statement that it would provide comprehensive support to women medical workers on the frontline to relieve their concerns at home.

In addition, the Shanxi Women and Children's Development Foundation has been allocating public donations to hard-hit areas over the past several weeks.
