In Northeast China's Jilin Province, a number of community officials are working on the frontline of prevention and control of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Community Official Confident in Final Victory
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Lin Songshu, Secretary of the Party committee of Yuanhui Community, has been doing prevention work for a dozen days without a day off. Lin's husband, who has had heart surgery, had to take care of himself.
"I could only tell him to be careful. I was too busy to attend to him," Lin said.
As a National Model Worker and National March 8th Red-banner Holder, Lin has been committed to her community work for 20 years.
To contain the spread of the virus, Lin has a lot of work to do, such as epidemic information publicity, disinfection, body temperature measurement of residents, and registration of the households.
As the community has many elderly people living alone, Lin and other Party members give them a call every day to ensure they are all in good condition. They also go to visit those senior people who missed the phone call to make sure they are fine.
"We are under great pressure, but we are also quite confident," Lin said. "Winter will go eventually."
Community Backbone Wins Trust of Residents
Wu Yaqin, Secretary of the Party committee of Changshan Garden Community in Kuancheng District, Changchun City, capital city of Jilin Province, is seen as the backbone of the community at this difficult time.
To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Wu has been increasing efforts in the community, working along with other Party members. "We will work hard together in the fight against the disease," she said.
"I need to walk around in the community several times every day. Returned residents from other provinces need to register in time, and the corridors of residential buildings should be disinfected twice a day," she added.
As an old community with many entrances and exits, Wu's team faced great pressure in epidemic prevention and control.
Many preventive measures have been taken, such as enhancing the management of entrance and exit , stressing the requests to wear facial masks, being strict with body temperature measurement and registration of residents, Wu said.
Knowing the shortage of volunteers in the community management, a few residents in their 70s signed up for the help.
"You have been the backbone of the community for years, and we will listen to you," Shi Fangjin, a senior Party member in the community, said to Wu.
Party Members Come First on Frontline of Anti-Virus Fight
Party Member Wang Xue is the Secretary of the Party Committee of Huaxi Community in Fengman District, Jilin City. The "post-80s" community official is always a caring person and she has been guarding the safety of residents living in 30 buildings in the community from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Before the Spring Festival on January 25, five residents returned home from Wuhan City, Central China's Hubei Province, epicenter of the virus outbreak. Wang took the initiative to come to measure body temperatures for the residents in quarantine on a regular basis every day.
In the bitter cold, Wang and other staff members worked all the time, moving so many people living there.
"We volunteer to do something," a dozen residents said to Wang.
An Li, a 50-year-old resident in the community, brought a dozen masks to the community's office. "We will disinfect our own corridors to ease your workload," she said.
In Jilin Province, thousands of community officials are working hard, making their utmost efforts to protect local residents from the COVID-19.
