I believe the meeting to be held soon in Beijing will inject new drive in efforts to fulfill gender equality, and to advance progress of women's cause globally.
During the past three decades, China has worked hard to foster a global environment favorable for women's development. Upholding firmly the concept of peaceful development and win-win cooperation, China has continuously promoted women's participation in the United Nations' actions for peace, and in international development and cooperation concerning women's issues.
We will review the milestone significance marked by the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and we will summarize the great achievements China has reached in advancing equality, development and peace. In my opinion, the "seed" of gender studies, especially concerning Women, Peace and Security (WPS) research, sowed during the conference 30 years ago, has taken root and blossomed brightly.
Thirty years ago, as a high school teacher in Beijing, I attended a special training session on the history of world conferences on women. I also helped train young volunteers, who were about to provide services during the Fourth World Conference on Women. The volunteers were all eager to learn relevant information and skills, and they vowed to complete their jobs well during the conference.
I will adhere to the concept of peaceful development and win-win cooperation, join to improve global governance of women's cause and do my part to help women and children live with happiness and peace
