"This year's government work report mentioned accelerating the innovation and development of the industrial Internet. This is the eighth consecutive year specific requirements for the industrial Internet have been advanced," Xu Xiaolan, a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee and president of Chinese Institute of Electronics, says.
Through the full interconnection of all elements, including people, materials and machines, the industrial Internet implements full connection of all elements, industry chains and value chains. In addition, it accelerates the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, and the development of emerging industries.
China's industrial Internet has been deployed across 49 fields of the nation's economy, to cover all major industrial categories, and its core industry value has achieved 1.53 trillion yuan (US $215 billion).
"The industrial Internet has provided small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with a platform to find markets, secure orders, access services, source supplies and optimize management," Xu says. "This has significantly accelerated the digital transformation of SMEs."
By integrating data from all key production elements — including equipment, workshops, factories and supply chains — the industrial Internet facilitates the integration of industrial big data. Then, through the application of AI, the vast data sets undergo deep analysis, giving rise to new manufacturing and service models. The process is reshaping production processes and management paradigms, helping enterprises enhance quality and efficiency while reducing costs and resource consumption, Xu says.
"The ultimate goal is to foster the high-quality, efficient, sustainable and secure development of the manufacturing sector," she says.
Xu adds, "By leveraging the industrial Internet, the manufacturing sector is poised to gain unprecedented momentum in the digitalization process, laying a solid foundation for the development of new industrialization."
