"As an NPC deputy, I am determined to devote myself to making the countryside a beautiful homeland, turning agriculture into a thriving industry, and elevating farming into an attractive and respected profession," Zhao Zhao, general manager of Nanyang Yamin Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd., said on March 11, during a group interview on the sidelines of the third session of the 14th NPC.
This year, she proposed the establishment of a modern agricultural industrial technology system.
In 2008, Zhao returned to her hometown, in the countryside of Nanyang, a city in Central China's Henan Province, to raise 50 head of cattle. Today, her company manages a herd of more than 4,000 head of cattle.
"The goal of our generation of college-educated youth should not be to leave our underdeveloped hometowns behind, but to return and improve our hometowns," Zhao says.
She believes in the importance of scientific and technological innovation. "I am most gratified, through technological innovation and model innovation, more villagers have changed the traditionally inefficient production mode. By exploring methods of recycling manure resources, we use fermented cow manure as the base material for growing mushrooms and breeding earthworms. As such, we have established the ecological cycle chain and provided more jobs," Zhao says.
Zhao's company has created a large number of jobs, and it has attracted many young people to return to their hometown to start their own businesses and/or find employment. "Rural areas and agriculture are in dire need οf young talent, and rural areas and agriculture are fields brimming with οpportunities for young people," Zhao says.
