Under the guidance of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the organization UN Women, a training session was held by the local government in Jingyuan County, northwest China' Gansu Province, on June 23-26 to promote new anti-domestic violence legislation and advance the establishment of a cooperative mechanism on family violence amongst governmental branches.

The county was selected as a pilot region by the ACWF and UN Women in 2011 to engage local governmental branches into concerted efforts to prevent and eliminate domestic violence, which so far has met satisfactory results in terms of the establishment of county-level institutes against domestic violence, the compilation of relevant regulations and brochures, and the publicity of relevant laws and concepts.

Therefore, a further round of the anti-domestic violence program is expected to kick off there under the support of the ACWF and UN Women in the coming months. More specifically, it covers the further advancement of legislation on anti-domestic violence, closer cooperation amongst governmental bodies on relevant civil affairs, reaching out to men to end family violence, target training amongst staff involved and further the popularity of relevant practices against domestic violence.

During the four-day training session, Member of the Secretariat and Vice-President of the Gansu Women's Federation Dong Xiaoling explained that Jingyuan should work hard to promote the building of the comprehensive mechanism with a focus on the prevention, identification, first-aid and tackling of domestic violence cases, extend needy assistance to relevant victims, and make timely summarization and publicity of constructive experience in the dealing of domestic violence cases.

Meanwhile, Xue Sulan, former vice chief-judge of the No.1 sub-court of criminal affairs at the Supreme People's Court, Li Hongtao and Huang Jing, two professors from the China Women's University (CWU), Liu Guanghua, deputy dean of the School of Laws in Lanzhou University, and several other legal experts were invited to give lectures in connection with the prevention, diagnosis and crackdown of domestic violence cases for staff members from local departments of public security, civil affairs, health, justice, women's federation and the court.

Those in attendance at the opening ceremony of the training event included Duan Guohui, vice inspector of the Legal Department from the ACWF, Guo Ruixiang, an official from the Program Department of UN Women in China, and Zheng Yu, secretary of the Jingyuan County Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
