ACWF President Attends the Eighth China Bao Steel Environment Awards

The Eighth China Bao Steel Environment Awards were unveiled in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday. Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) Shen Yueyue and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF Jiao Yang attended the award ceremony and delivered the awards.

All together 25 units and individuals received the awards of City Environment, Environment Management, Enterprise Environment, Ecology Protection and Environment Protection Publicity and Education, including Liao Chunhua, from Shangri-La County in southwest China's Yunnan Province, Chao Wei Group and Tonglu county amongst others.

Li Wei, the secretary general of China Environment Protection Fund, told reporters after the ceremony that this year's awards have three characteristics. The awards focus on people's livelihood and try to solve environment problems hampering people's lives, place an emphasis on air pollution and treatment, and encourage people to submit systematic plans in environment protection.

China Bao Steel Environment Awards was established by China Environment Fund in 2000 aiming at commemorating and encouraging units and people who have made outstanding contributions to environment protection in China. In 2007 Shanghai Baoshan Steel Company donated 50 million yuan (U.S. $8 million) to act as the fund for the awards. Since its establishment, 171 units and people have been awarded.
