The Beijing Women's Development Humanity Charity Foundation, a non-profit organization focusing on financial aid for poverty-stricken mothers and their families, imprisoned women, underprivileged students, nursing homes and women's job training, was founded in Beijing on December 21.

Renowned Chinese singers Dedema, Geng Lianfeng, Cai Guoqing, Bai Xue, Zhang Huamin and Chen Meiru became the goodwill ambassadors of the foundation, using their fame and personal endorsement to help promote the good causes and charity projects that the foundation undertakes.

Previously, the foundation had worked together with other charity organizations to launch a campaign to relieve impoverished mothers; and by the time the campaign wrapped up, it had helped distribute funds and supplies worth more than 20 million yuan (U.S. $3.21 million) to a total of more than 300,000 people. As a result of the campaign's significant success and impact, it was recognized with the award for Outstanding Contributions to China's Charity Cause.

One of the groups of people whom the campaign aims to help relieve are imprisoned, needful women, for whom society shows neglect and little concern. Director of the foundation Chen Fugang said that one of the organization's responsibilities is to help women who have committed negligent crimes and to help fund their children's education. Chen explained that helping their families through difficulties and offering them psychological counseling will contribute to domestic harmony and social harmony as well as to the prevention of future crimes.

At the launch ceremony, Dedema and Cai Guoqing each performed a song for those in attendance. Dedema said that as a mother, she hopes that more people will consider helping poverty-stricken mothers. On behalf of the foundation, she and a number of other generous individuals ceremoniously distributed 2,000 yuan (U.S. $321.31) per person to nine poverty-stricken mothers from Chongli and Pingquan counties, in north China's Hebei Province.

The foundation and the Working Committee on Women under the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) also donated 100,000 yuan (U.S. $16,066) to the women's federation in Shucheng County, in east China's Anhui Province, to help 20 poverty-stricken mothers suffering from cervical or breast cancer.

To date, the foundation has donated money and supplies worth more than 10 million yuan (U.S. $1.6 million). The foundation has stressed that they will conduct their finances with only the most stringent of practices and that the funds are audited by the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau and professional auditing institutions. The use of the funds will also be opened to the public in time.
