The 6th National Women's Congress

The Sixth National Women's Congress
Deng Xiaoping and other leaders of the CPC Central Committee meet deputies to the Sixth National Women's Congress. 

 

The Sixth National Women's Congress was convened in Beijing on September 1-6, 1988 with Zhang Guoying, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, issuing a report entitled "Strive for Self-esteem, Self-confidence, Self-reliance and Self-improvement, to Perform Meritorious Deeds and Win the Victory of Reform." Zhang took the position that improvements for women are fundamental and they are the strategic goal of the women's movement. She put forward the four functions of the women's federation — participation, education, representation and service.  Chen Muhua, President of the ACWF gave an important speech on "Unite and Struggle Together in the Spirit of the Sixth National Women's Congress." Kang Keqing was elected Honorary President of the ACWF and Chen Muhua was elected President.
