"The ricefields' sweet smell promises a bumper year; Listen, how frogs' croaks please the ear!" goes a famous line by Song Dynasty poet Xin Qiji. Yet, in the eastern reaches of China, the once-common call of the Chinese Immaculate Treefrog has become rare.
