Shanghai women are generally happy with their lives, according to the 4th Shanghai Women and Children Working Conference held in the city government on Friday.
The happiness index for local women was 4.17 out of five in 2018, dramatically up from 3.54 in 2014, showing most of women feel happier than before.
The average life expectancy of Shanghai women has reached 86.1 years, longer than local man who expect to live 81.2 years.
Local women take an increasingly active role in local economic growth. The city has nearly 2.8 million female workers. Of the professional technicians, 44.8 percent are women, and of the researchers and scientists, 28.4 percent are women.
According to the conference, more steps will be taken to improve living of local women and children. For example, new kindergartens will meet the increasing demand due to the relaxation of the family planning policy. By the end of 2020, 50 child-friendly communities are expected to be completed.
