CHENGDU, May 27 (Xinhua) — An exhibition featuring the Bronze civilization in the southwest region of China opened Saturday in the southwestern city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

A total of 294 pieces or sets of precious cultural relics, mainly bronzeware from as early as the Neolithic Age and as late as the Qin and Han dynasties (221 B.C.-220 A.D.), are on display at the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu.

Among these pieces are some newly unearthed objects from the Sanxingdui ruins, which is located about 60 km from Chengdu.

The display shows the social features, religious beliefs, and artistic aesthetics of southwest China in ancient times, and reveals the unified and diversified development pattern of the Chinese civilization.

Southwest China has been inhabited by various ethnic groups since ancient times and has been rich in non-ferrous metals. The bronze culture created by the ancient ancestors in this region is famous for its distinctive style and ethnic characteristics, representing a peak of Bronze civilization in Asia.

The exhibition will run until August 27th.
