Shen Yuan's solo exhibition, Angling, at Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing, is drawn from the challenges, physically and mentally, of her as an immigrant woman artist on a day-to-day base. She addresses these situations in a delicate and sensitive way in her work.

On show are only six big-size installations, five of which were created between 2019 and 2022. They utter the energies of a woman and reflect on the social system of the industrial age.

Meanwhile, they also reflect Shen's spiritual journey after she lost her loved one and after the world was thrown into a time of pandemic which has dramatically reshaped the world's ideas on intimacy and interchanges between people.

Shen's works "form various imagined habitats, namely homes, for herself and the others",said Hou Hanru, the exhibition curator. The exhibition runs through to Feb 26.
