Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, on July 20-22 conducted an inspection tour to Zhengzhou City and Lankao County in Central China's Henan Province.

Huang visited the Jiao Yulu Memorial Hall and watched the life story exhibition of Jiao Yulu, who worked in Lankao in the 1960s and devoted his life to combating sandstorms, soil contamination and floods while improving the lives of the locals.

Noting that the core of the Jiao Yulu Spirit is the public servant spirit of "putting the people first," Huang urged the women's federations to study and practice that spirit, and integrate the people-centered development philosophy into their work.

Guo Xia is a delegate to the 12th National Women's Congress and leader of a food company affiliated to a women's poverty alleviation base in Zhangzhuang Village in Lankao. Huang encouraged Guo to publicize the Party's theories, policies and guidelines while helping local women increase their income.

Huang learned more about the activity of Looking for the Most Beautiful Family and free screening of cervical and breast cancers in the women and children's homes in Daizhuang and Wuyemiao villages and Wangzhuang Community in Lankao.

Huang emphasized more efforts should be made in the building of family, family education and family traditions, and in creating new ways in social governance at primary level.

She also called on women volunteers and college students to join in the activities of caring for children in summer vacation, such as popularizing the knowledge on prevention of drowning and sexual assault.

Huang visited two private enterprises during her inspection tour, investigating the establishment and development of the women's federations in new sectors and among new groups, and how the women's federations guide, serve and contact local women.

During the tour, Huang underlined that the women's federations should play a unique role in coordinating regular epidemic containment with economic and social development, and more solid efforts should be made in the work of rights protection and caring for and assisting women and children in need.

Huang said women's federations should also deepen their reforms, and unite and lead women to contribute to a decisive victory in the battle against poverty and the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
