The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) on April 20, 2021, hosted a lecture on "improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and implementing the principle of patriots governing Hong Kong." The lecture was held via virtual meeting.

The ACWF invited professor Wang Zhenmin, Vice-President of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies and Head of the Institute of State Governance and Director of the Center for Hong Kong and Macao Studies at Tsinghua University, to give a report to ACWF's executive committee members from the special administrative regions (SARs) of Hong Kong and Macao.

Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, delivered a speech. More than 100 participants, including representatives of ACWF's executive committee from the Hong Kong and Macao SARs and representatives from HKSAR living in Beijing, participated.

Wang explained the necessity, urgency and significance of improving HKSAR's electoral system. During the lecture, representatives of ACWF's executive committee from the Hong Kong and Macao SARs expressed gratitude to the ACWF for building a platform to enhance friendly exchanges.

They vowed to make good use of their advantages by spreading important spirit to and answering questions raised by people from HKSAR, especially from the younger generations. They also pledged to unite and lead women in HKSAR in safeguarding national security and play a positive role in helping Hong Kong return to a normal track of development.

When she summarized the lecture, Xia said she fully approved of ACWF's executive committee members' roles in adhering firmly to the National People's Congress' decision on improving the electoral system of HKSAR and in safeguarding national security and the long-term stability of HKSAR. She said she hoped ACWF's executive committee members from HKSAR will give full play to their leading roles in promoting important spirit to grass-roots women, families and youth from the region, uniting and leading women from all segments of society in advancing HKSAR's development, in accordance with the principle of "One Country, Two Systems," and in making new and greater contributions to creating a promising future for the Hong Kong and Macao SARs.

Representatives from the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR and from Beijing Women's Federation also participated in the lecture.
