Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and Wang Yubo, Deputy Secretary of Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), delivered speeches on the opening ceremony on September 16.

Xia spoke highly of the positive results generated from Lancang-Mekong cooperation since it was launched in 2016. She said the ACWF is willing to work with women from Mekong River countries to promote international cooperation along the Belt and Road, gather up women's strength to advance healthy and sustainable development of Lancang-Mekong cooperation and deepen people's friendship and pragmatic cooperation among Lancang-Mekong countries, making new contribution to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. She also outlined several actions taken by women's federations, at all levels across China, in poverty alleviation, rural revitalization and women's entrepreneurship and innovation.

From September 16-22, participants of the workshop attended lectures conducted by Chinese women cadres, experts and scholars. The lectures were about Chinese women and women's organizations, development of women and childrenin Yunnan, women's approaches to economic empowerment in poverty-stricken areas, and empowerment of migrant women and community economy. The lecturers introduced — from different perspectives — the policies and measures taken by CPC and Chinese Government to safeguard women's rights and advancing women's all-round development as well as the achievements made in the process. They also talked about the women's federations' role in promoting women's economic empowerment. In the experience-sharing seminar during the workshop, participants introduced their countries' practices in promoting women's participation in economic and social development and talked about the experience gained and challenges faced in the field of women's economic empowerment in each country.

From September 22-24, the participants were in Chongzuo City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, to attend 2019 China-ASEAN Forum on Women's Entrepreneurship and Innovation, organized by ACWF, the China-ASEAN Association and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
