Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Deputy Director of the National Working Committee on Children and Women, under the State Council of China, met María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, in Beijing, on June 18, 2019.
Huang introduced China's working mechanism for gender equality and women's development featuring leadership by the government, multi-departmental cooperation and participation of the whole of society, as well as the remarkable achievements of women's development during the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, in particular since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core.
Huang mentioned the four -point proposal raised by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, held in September 2015, which called on all countries to strive for women's development in tandem with social and economic progress, protect women's rights and interests, make joint efforts to build harmonious and inclusive societies and foster a global environment favorable for women's development. Huang said the four-point proposal demonstrated China's wisdom and provided solutions to promote the equality between men and women and to advance women's all-round development.
uang added that the ACWF worked as a bridge connecting the CPC and the Chinese Government with women across the country. She explained ACWF's programs involving women's innovation and entrepreneurship, poverty alleviation and the building of family happiness and well-being. She also outlined how the ACWF protected the rights and interests of women and children in accordance with the law.
Huang said she appreciated Espinoza Garcés' emphasis on gender equality and women's empowerment as one of her priorities as the President of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.
Espinoza Garcés said the UN is willing to have in-depth exchanges and cooperation with China on women's education, health, poverty alleviation and engagement in economic activities. The UN will cooperate with China to make contributions to the implementation of Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, as well as the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
