Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women's Affairs of Cambodia, in Beijing on May 29, 2019.

Shen said China and Cambodia have a long history of friendship. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen have met twice this year and have reached important consensus on the development of China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership in a new era, Shen added. Shen spoke positively of the economic and social progress made by Cambodia under Hun's leadership.

Shen said China and Cambodia should make joint efforts to implement the consensus reached by the heads of the two countries, deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and bring more benefits to the people in promoting the construction of the Belt and Road.

During the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has attached great importance to women's development and taken various measures to promote women's all-round development, Shen added. She made a frank and in-depth introduction of China's experience in poverty alleviation, illiteracy elimination, health care and the promotion of role models. She also shared stories about how women's senses of gain, happiness and security have been continuously enhanced. Shen noted that Chinese and Cambodian women, as participants in and contributors to the development of friendship between the two countries, should further enhance exchanges and cooperation, so as to make greater contributions to the promotion of people-to-people connectivity, the advancement of China-Cambodia friendship and the construction of the Belt and Road.

Kantha Phavi expressed gratitude for China's long-term support, which has contributed to Cambodia's economic and social development. She said Cambodia is willing to learn from China's measures and good experiences in advancing women's all-round development. She hopes to deepen communication with China on topics such as strengthening exchanges and cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese female entrepreneurs, improving women's educational level, and providing support for women in balancing their work and life. She is willing to further deepen friendly exchanges between women of the two countries and lead more children and young people to inherit the two countries' friendship and make new contributions to the building of a community with a shared future for Cambodia and China.

On the same day, Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, held a working meeting with the Cambodian delegation. Huang outlined ACWF's in-depth implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and CPC Central Committee General Secretary Xi's important statements concerning women and women's work. The ACWF launched various activities to show Chinese women's patriotism and loyalty to the Party, to provide them with support in poverty alleviation, business start-ups, and to give full play to women's unique roles in family and society, uniting and leading millions of women to make achievements in the new era. The two sides reached consensus on areas such as further enhancing bilateral exchanges and deepening pragmatic cooperation.

The Cambodian delegation visited China at the invitation of the ACWF. Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, attended the delegation's meetings with the ACWF's leaders.
