Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met a delegation from the Republic of Congo in Beijing on May 21, 2019. The delegation was headed by Inès Bertille Nefer Ingani, Minister of Women’s Promotion and Integration in Development of the Republic of Congo.

Shen noted Chinese President Xi Jinping has met the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, many times during the past few years, and the heads of the two countries have promoted continuous and in-depth development of the countries' comprehensive strategic partnership. Women are active participants and direct beneficiaries of the development of the two countries, Shen added.

Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), during the 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chinese have been self-reliant and hard-working, and have found a development path compatible with their national conditions, Shen added. The Chinese nation has developed from the status of "standing up" to "becoming rich and strong." Chinese women's status has undergone significant changes and remarkable achievements have been made regarding the development of women's undertakings, Shen said.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, has attached great importance to Chinese women's causes, women's roles and work. General Secretary Xi has stressed women should hold up half the sky in economic development, and women should play their unique roles in family and social lives. Women should have access to their legal rights, as equally as men; women should equally participate in economic and social development; and, women should have equal access to the fruitful achievements reached during the reform and development of their country, Shen continued.

She also outlined the initiatives and measures taken by the CPC and the Chinese Government in women's education, health, employment and legal protection. She explained how ACWF has united and mobilized Chinese women to strive to secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

Women's friendly exchanges are an important force in advancing friendship between China and the Republic of Congo, Shen said, adding China will work with the Republic of Congo to expand women's friendly exchanges and increase pragmatic collaboration to promote the economic and social development of the two countries and make greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for China and African countries.

Ingani spoke highly of Chinese women's development and expressed gratitude for the selfless support China has provided to Africa, especially to the Republic of Congo. She said China's good practices have set a good example for other developing countries. She added the Republic of Congo will deepen its exchanges and cooperation with China, and will make joint efforts to enhance relations between the two countries and build a community with a shared future for Africa and China.

Also on that day, Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, introduced the responsibilities and achievements of the ACWF under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi at its core. ACWF has served as a bridge that connects women with the Party and the government, and the federation has functioned as an important social pillar to unite and lead women to engage in social development, Huang said. Huang and Ingani exchanged views on promoting women's all-round development and deepening pragmatic exchanges between women of the two countries.

The delegation from the Republic of Congo visited China at the invitation of the ACWF. Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and Daniel Owassa, Ambassador of the Republic of Congo to China, participated in the delegation's meetings with ACWF's leaders.
