ByYe Shan May 17, 2019

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Policy Partnership on Women and Economy (PPWE) held its first meeting of this year in Valparaiso, Chile, from May 5-13. Representatives from 16 member economies attended the meeting. Participants also included delegates from the All-China Women's Federation.

Chile, this year's APEC host economy, attached great importance to topics related to women's causes. It was the first time in APEC history that women's issues were included as one of the host economy's priorities.

Carolina Cuevas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Women and the Gender Equity of Chile and 2019-2020 PPWE Chair, presided over the meeting.

During the event, Chile and Australia co-hosted the Advancing Women's Economic Empowerment through Data Workshop on May 7-8. The workshop highlighted the importance of collection and usage of gender-sensitive data to promote women's economic participation.
