As the fourth generation inheritor of Huamao pottery craftsmanship, Mu Xiancai, 52, started learning pottery-making from his father when he was 13 years old. He founded the first pottery workshop in Huamao Village as the village boosted rural tourism in 2014. The annual income of Mu Xiancai has increased from 30,000 yuan (about 4,275 U.S. dollars) to 300,000 (about 42,750 U.S. dollars) as his workshop expanded to an experience center where people can buy pottery and experience pottery making. Greeting about ten thousand tourists each year, Mu hopes more and more visitors would come here to experience rural life, and he also hopes that his son could return to their hometown to pass down the traditional craft.
