Using such simple tools as a whistle, a gong and a measuring tape, Hou Fang, 37, has stuck to her position in monitoring the unstable slopes in her village for more than three years.

As a Party member, she volunteered to become a geological disaster monitor of the Gujiaao Village, Yongchuan District, Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. 

Chongqing has been hit by heavy rain recently, so Hou patrols at the places with potential risk of geological disasters five or six times every day. 

Despite the danger, Hou never retreats. She knows her duty is protecting the lives and property of the people in her hometown.
