Volleyball Legend Lang Ping Cheers up Gaokao Students amid Epidemic

 July 10, 2020

The long tough journey of preparing for Gaokao, the national college entrance examination, reached its end on July 6. Affected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, many candidates may have felt uneasy, and asked themselves "Can I win the battle?"

On the day before Gaokao, Lang Ping, renowned coach of the Chinese women's volleyball team, took two special quizzes before the camera via online platform NetEase to encourage the candidates by giving them an answer with action.

The first test paper was about the honors and achievements Lang has made over the past 40 years, which seems very simple for Chinese volleyball fans. However, Lang had to calculate, and finally spent 10 minutes completing it.

The second test investigated volleyball technical points and training methods. Lang wrote down the answers without hesitation, and the process took only three minutes.

Her indecisiveness while answering the first paper was in stark contrast with her calmness in the second one.

Although countless brilliant achievements may be forgotten, volleyball training tips have been rooted in Lang's mind so that she can answer without thinking.

China's volleyball legend Lang Ping is the first person in volleyball to win Olympic titles both as a player (1984) and as a coach (2016). Known as The Iron Hammer, she won gold at the World Championship in 1982 and at the World Cup in 1981 and in 1985 as the leading striker of the Chinese national team. Lang also claimed the MVP awards three times.

According to the video, the Gaokao examination is a towering mountain to climb in a students' 12-year studying career. However, the students who have sweated blood don't need to worry about the results, for the strength someone has exerted won't be in vain.

The test papers they have finished, the words they have memorized and the lessons they have reviewed will be their source of confidence to pass the exam.

"The process is the most important, and the result is inevitable and natural," said Lang. Just work hard, and surprises are waiting for the prepared on the road ahead.
