Nong Chunlian, Vice-President of the Women's Federation of Longzhou County, Chongzuo City, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was commended the national anti-drug advanced individual at a ceremony held on June 23 to mark the 33rd International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which fell on June 26.

Nong, also deputy head of the anti-drug leading group of the county's women's federation, has dedicated herself to mobilizing local women and families in the anti-drug battle in the past nine years, making a remarkable contribution to maintaining the county's social harmony and stability. She is the only official of the women's federation in Guangxi to win the honorary title.

Longzhou is situated in the areas where China borders Vietnam, and 95 percent of its 270,000 population are people of Zhuang ethnic group.

"A relative of mine entered a rehab center four or five times. I know how easily drug addiction can destroy a family; that is the reason why I determined to make much efforts in the battle against drugs," said Nong.

Through major activities of the county's women's federation, Nong guided the women's federations in the county to publicize drug-control knowledge online and offline. She has compiled more than 200 anti-drug messages to facilitate the anti-drug events launched by the women's federations in the whole county.

Nong has made great efforts in publicizing anti-drug knowledge through the women's homes and the children's homes around the county, ensuring the regular publicity of drug control at the grassroots level.

A total of 65 anti-drug activities were held in the women's homes in communities and villages, and more than 30,000 anti-drug leaflets and brochures were handed out to the locals. Nearly 100 anti-drug activities were held in the children's homes to protect the juveniles from the drugs. More than 8,000 children and parents have benefited.

As Zhuang people love folk songs, Nong integrated the anti-drug publicity into the folk songs. She has organized singers, dancers and song writers to give performances related to anti-drug knowledge and AIDS prevention which are popular with the locals.

The county's women's federation has also cooperated with relevant departments and organizations in drug control and AIDS prevention in the border areas between Chinese and Vietnam women since 2013, aiming to raise the anti-drug awareness of local women and families.

Nong said that she keeps in mind her mission of making unremitting anti-drug efforts, and she vowed to go further into the battle against drugs and protect women and children's rights and interests.
