A list of 20 women representatives of medical workers on the front line of the battle against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was unveiled ahead of International Women's Day.

The selection was jointly announced by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the All-China Women's Federation, the National Health Commission, and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission.

The event aims to extend respect and regards to all women medical personnel on the front line of the battle against the COVID-19, send greetings to them upon the arrival of International Women's Day, and call on women from all walks of life in the country to follow the example of honored role models and make their own contributions to the final victory over the disease.  

Statistics show that over 40,000 medical workers from across the country have been working in Wuhan, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak and capital city of Central China's Hubei Province, since late January. A majority of them are women, who have shown their bravery and professionalism amid the epidemic prevention and control work. Their touching stories have inspired countless people across the country.

Xia Sisi [For Women of China]

 

Xia Sisi, 29, a doctor with the Department of Gastroenterology at Union Jiangbei Hospital, lost her life in the anti-epidemic battle on February 23.

Guo Qin [For Women of China]

 

Guo Qin, an experienced nurse with Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, who became infected with COVID-19 at her workplace, returned to her post on January 28 after recovering from the illness, even though her head nurse and family hoped her not to.

He Wen [For Women of China]

 

He Wen, a chief nurse with Hubei Provincial Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, has put forward many precise measures to further improve the hospitalization procedures of COVID-19 patients.

Ye Liwen [For Women of China]

 

Ye Liwen, a respiratory physician with the Third People's Hospital of Hubei Province, has received the visits of over 3,000 patients with symptoms of fever over the past several weeks. Her colleagues thus gave her the nickname "Brave Ye" in praise of her hard-working spirit and the sense of responsibility in the battle against COVID-19.

Gan Ruyi [For Women of China]

 

Gan Ruyi, a doctor with the Fanhu Branch of the Jinkou Health Center in Jingxia District, travelled about 300 kilometers from her home to get back to her workplace by bike to join the fight against COVID-19.

Cai Zhifang [For Women of China]

 

Cai Zhifang, 59, a respiratory physician with Wuhan Hankou Hospital, has become the oldest medical worker among her colleagues fighting on the front line of the counter-epidemic battle. Moreover, she was one of the first to start on the front line.

Mao Yonghui, a nephrologist with Beijing Hospital and member of national health team from the capital, has been reputed for her expertise in the treatment of patients in critical conditions.

Xia Ying [For Women of China]

 

Xia Ying, an ICU nurse with Peking Union Medical College Hospital and member of national health team from the capital, has worked non-stop in the ICU wards since her arrival in Wuhan. She and her colleagues accomplished the building of a new intensive care wards in just 48 hours.

Zhao Peiyu, a chief nurse with China-Japan Friendship Hospital and member of national health team from the capital, has done her utmost to give care and hope to her COVID-19 patients.

Guo Jing, deputy director of the Nursing Department at Guang'anmen Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (CACMS) and member of national health team of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) from the capital, has been devoted to the treatment of COVID-19 patients with her expertise in TCM.

Wang Bing [For Women of China]

 

Wang Bing, a respiratory physician with Xiyuan Hospital of the CACMS and member of national health team of TCM, has stressed the application of TCM in her integrated treatment plans of Chinese and western medicines on the front line. Moreover, she was accepted as a Party member in recognition of tremendous contributions to the battle of the epidemic prevention and control in Wuhan.

Liu Yuhang [For Women of China]

 

Liu Yuhang, an ICU nurse with Beijing Shijitan Hospital, volunteered to go to Wuhan and aid the epidemic prevention and control efforts there when a medical team was summoned. Her mother, also a medical worker, fought in the battle against the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2003.

She Sha [For Women of China]

 

She Sha, a young nurse with Sichuan Provincial Fourth People's Hospital, has spared no efforts in the rescue and treatment of COVID-19 patients at the front line in a move to express her gratitude to those who extended their hands to help quake-affected people when a magnititude-8 earthquake hit Wenchuan, her hometown, in May 2008.

Song Caiping, deputy director of the Nursing Department at Huoshenshan Hospital and member of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Medical Team, has demonstrated a combined strength of her professionalism and compassion the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Chen Jing, a chief nurse from the intensive care wards at Huoshenshan Hospital and member of the PLA Medical Team, has done her utmost to guarantee the safety and health of both patients and her teammates at the front line of the counter-epidemic battle.

Zhong Yuexia, deputy director of the Nursing Department at Huoshenshan Hospital and member of the PLA Medical Team, has always rushed to the front line when she is working at both Wuhan Wuchang Hospital and Huoshenshan Hospital, one of two major makeshift hospitals built to battle against the contagious virus.

Jiang Xiaojing, director of the Department of Infection and Internal Medicine at the General Hospital of the PLA Central Theater Command, has come up with precise treatment plans for each patient and raised the scale of self-protection at the front line of the battle against the COVID-19.

Xu Hui, vice-president of Nanjing Hospital of Chinese Medicine Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and deputy director of the hospital's command unit for prevention and control of the COVID-19, gave her life in the counter-epidemic battle at the workplace after working non-stop for 18 consecutive days.

Cao Lingling, a chief nurse from the Department of Internal Medicine at Shaoxing Central Hospital, in East China's Zhejiang Province, has earned the nickname of "nurse mother" among the public for her wholehearted care towards teenage COVID-19 patients.
